Scott Burnett, Lee Haldorsen, Don Garberg, John Pletsch and Davin McLaird will be returning on 2/17/19 to lead worship: Scott is pulling a Jake and Elwood and bringing the band back together! Your gracious pleading yet commanding invitation “Come to the front”. She ran into you like you were home base. And I sat stunned, a newcomer, a believer with scars. I watched the tension drain from her As you held and hugged and prayed. What was it? …“it’s His kindness that leads to repentance”. I just sat there, didn’t move, couldn’t ‘til Tuesday As a hundred lies I had believed about God: God of the last chance God of the gotcha God who is austere and cold and far away shattered In the redemption of that moment For her And for me. We all have a story, a crossing over. The visitor becomes a congregant, Stranger discovers home. For nearly 40 years, you’ve pastored a church Where kindness guards the door And humility stands upfront. Presenting sermon after sermon, Illustrations of God’s vastness and Personhood. The Father heart of God – His relentless tenderness A heaping bowl of grapes – His abundance Retelling the Passover Story through the imagined musings of a donkey – (OK, not sure about that one!) Forgiveness, power, money, marriage Taking a real rest – “learning the unforced rhythms of grace” And Ephesians, always ….er… often Ephesians! “How wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ” Decades of wisdom, humor and care, A burden you’ve shouldered and cherished No matter what. When cancer gripped a hand on your throat, When embarrassment burrowed marrow-deep, When life was unmoored by sorrow Still leading, still caring, still interceding. Through our times of scraped down devastation Your voice wearing a cardigan and choked with tears Gently bearing witness ‘Til we could breathe again. And when life exploded in color: Weddings, baptisms, baby dedications, multi-decade anniversaries Potlucks - where taste buds sing an aria Karaoke and limbo and Hawaiian dancing Your wife by your side. Her enchanting laughter That curves around and enfolds Through tea parties, Downton Abbey soirees, playful skits With an abundance of vivacity honed long before ever becoming a pastor’s wife Eyes that sparkle with adventure and, perhaps, a touch of mischief! Yet, even in the fog of closure, There’s a clarity that wraps around all of us. The breath of NCC has warmed our lives. The swell of friendship, Open-handed generosity, Unadulterated guidance. The date was set. Plans were hatched. Ministry was prepared. Excitement brewed. Then the snows came. Fear and uncertainty grew. And then... Against the forecast, the snow abated. The clouds parted. The sun came out and shone brightly. Light streamed down on Bothell. The roads were cleared. People came. The seats were filled. Music played. Emotions swelled and tears welled. Poetry soared. Memories rang out. The choir brought a chorus of melody and harmony. Old friends reconnected. People ate and drank and laughed. We CELEBRATED. Thank you from NCC to all who came today to honor 39.5 years of legacy, and to honor Pastor Lee and Sue Bennett and our church family. Despite the Cool and the snow, NCC will have its celebration tomorrow, Sunday, February 10th, as planned. We will meet at 10am and have a BBQ and potluck immediately following.
